I've been boo-ed!

I've been boo-ed by Granny Goes to School I think this will be a fun linky party. Thanks for thinking of me :)

Here are the rules.................................................................
Here is my Halloween Share list: First off have you seen these darling free printables if you want to boo a neighbor or maybe another class? I found this darling printable at :tiffcreativeoutlet.blogspot.com http://tiffcreativeoutlet.blogspot.com/search/label/Halloween I am going to start boo-ing classrooms at my school tomorrow. This is the cute sign I'm going to put on their door:
Then I'm going to attach this to a bag of candy. I made these instructions so if you want to grab a copy go for it: HERE

I can't take credit for this next idea. I teach part-time and the lady I job share with well she came up with this darling idea. She has the students make black cats and they use dum dums for the eyes. Then on the outside of the pumpkin they write a joke and then you pull the stem and the answer is inside. These were a big hit at parent teacher conferences tonight. All of the parents wanted to see their child's and read their joke. Too cute!!

I'm passing the BOO onto these other great bloggers, so be sure to stop by for their Halloween goodies and great ideas.

Place Value Movin' (Freebie)

Does anyone use Expressions to teach math? Our district adopted their basal this year and we are required to follow it. We can't deviate from the text. I'm so sad. I used to LOVE teaching Math in fact I felt like that was where my students did the very best. The main reason I became a teacher is because I love to create. Now I feel like I can't do anything but teach Expressions. I don't mean to dis on it. It is a good program. But I miss teaching math the way I used to. So I guess now I'll have to put my creative juices into creating instead of using them in my own class. :( Can I just say how much I love to teach place value. I have a five year old boy and I really feel like he learns best when he is up and moving. This place value freebie will once again have your kiddos moving around the room. The last place value activity I made did the same thing. If you haven't downloaded it you can download it too. It's also free. I have a couple more ideas up my sleeve for place value too. I'll be making a few more in the next couple of weeks.

This is the other place value activity if you would like to download it as well. They're both FREE. Just click on the pictures and it will take you to TPT.

Name-O

I've started teaching first grade and can I just say how much I love it... The kids are so sweet. They want to hold my hand and hug me all day long. They are just adorable. One of the activities we have been working on is called Name-O. My kids love this activity. I did this activity with my second graders last year and they loved it too. I made a file folder with the words NAME-O written on the front and I cut a slit in the front of it. Every day I choose three students names. I have all my students stand up. I pick one of their names and I slide their strip through the hole. One letter at a time. When I show the first letter. I have all the students who's name doesn't start with that letter sit down. I pull the name out of the slit slowly to only show each letter at a time. If a child has the same first and second letter in their name they keep standing until my class is able to figure out who's name it is. Then I have that child come to the front and we sing the song together. Putting their name in the blanks.  I'm going to use the example Michael. The song goes like this:
There is a boy/girl in our Second grade Class and Michael is his name-o. M-i-c-h-a-e-l, M-i-c-h-a-e-l, M-i-c-h-a-e-l and Michael is his name-O. It's to the tune Of BINGO. How do you teach names in your class?

If you would like a copy of the strips of papers I use. I put them in my TPT shop. You can just click on the picture above and it will take you .

Freebie Friday!!!

I'm so excited to share this birthday freebie with you. This is how I celebrate birthdays in my classroom. For this birthday activity, you have two options: first you could print page 2 and have the birthday child cut it out. Or option 2, you could have the birthday child cut out page 3 and color it to their liking. Page 4 are sparkle statements. I place one strip on each child’s desk. They have to write a sparkle statement to that child on their birthday. I tell the kids I don’t want them to write Suzy is nice. I want them to think of good qualities about that specific child. We usually have a lesson before. Then when they are finished with their sparkle statement they bring it to my back table. I usually do this first thing in the morning. I make the strips into a chain. I attach the chain to the picture of the cake. If your going to print this off. I would suggest using card stock because it's flimsy without. :). My students have always loved this activity. If you want  to grab a copy of this click on the picture!

If your looking for some more FREEBIES check out my TPT Store. I have a lot of them!!

My cutie N he didn't really like being the example but he was a good sport.
Check out Falling Into First to link up with your birthday ideas.

Coat Hanger Labels

I love the blog Queen of the First Grade Jungle. She has been getting her room all set up and has made the most adorable locker labels. I copied her idea and made some for my classroom. I didn't know if anyone else would like them as well. So I posted them on TPT for free. They are editable too.{ I hope so anyways} I tried it out for the first time. If you download them will you let me know if it worked for you? Check out Katie's too. Hers are way better than these. I love the chevron print she put on hers and she made the most adorable teacher gifts with them too. Click on the picture if you want to download them :).

Free Place Value Hula Hoop activity

I shouldn't be posting twice in one day. I created a place value game. Oh and it's FREE!!!I actually play this game with my students every year but I made some cuter cards to go with it. I place hula hoops all over my classroom. then I give each of my students a card. When I say go, They have to find their group that has the same number. The first group to get all their members puts the hula hoop around them. Then I know I can walk over and check to make sure they have found everyone in their group. This is such a fun activity. My students love it. I hope your students will too. I wish I could take pictures of it but I'm on summer break. Please let me know if you find this useful.  If you click on the words or picture it will take you to the cards. Have a blessed day!

Best Work Freebie!! YippEE!

I don't know about you but I have a problem with students work by the end of the year. It seems like at the beginning they are so happy to please you and do their personal best. However I had a couple of cuties this past year that it seemed like their work got sloppier and sloppier as time went on. I finally made a rubric to catch those little cuties in the act. I placed my rubric by my finished basket and sure enough their work started to improve WOW!!! I put it on TPT for free so if you would like a copy, snag one for yourself. I will in the next couple of days be making a rubric that you can have by your finished basket that the kids will be able to staple to their own paper and rate themselves.

Personal best!!

Free Adverbs

I have been so out of the loop lately, I haven't posted in FOREVER!!! However I do follow teacher blogs on a daily basis. Sometimes with two kids it's hard to feel the creative juices. I feel so uncreative lately. When I didn't have kids I had all the time in the world to create and now that I have kids I feel like I have no time to create. I don't know how all you mother/teachers do it. In Second grade we have been studying adverbs. This concept is always so hard for my students. They really struggle with this concept. So I thought I better make up an assessment to see if my students understand what an Adverb is.  I hope this is a good assessment for you and your students on adverbs. Please let me know if you were able to use it. Here is the link.... ADVERBS
Best of all it's FREE!!!
